Prof. Gavrilenko was the leading expert in the field of the chemical reactions mechanisms, carbenium ions and hydride transfer in organic and organometallic compounds. He has discovered the new hydration method, so called “ionic hydration”, which is the sequential addition of the proton (or Lewis acid) and hydride ion to the unsaturated bonds. The variation of hydration reagent pairs and wide applicability make this reaction general for organic chemistry.
